A 1977 graduate of Oxon Hill High School, Andre Gist was a fun-loving and honorable young man, a dedicated student and a star on the football field. After excelling as an offensive and defensive lineman in high school and at the University of West Virginia, Andre realized a dream.
He became a professional football player, joining the Tampa Bay Bandits during the inaugural season of the United States Football league. Less than a year later in 1983, he died tragically in an auto accident. Despite this tragedy, Andre’s winning spirit lives on through the shared memories if his family and friends and through this scholarship. Two events, a Spring Black Tie evening of entertainment and dining and a summer golf tournament are organized each year to raise funds and honor him. All support and contributions are greatly appreciated.
